Catching Crimals through media...
I know we have all heard that police officers have fake social networking accounts trying to catch criminals but I found this article about how it was being done. This prosecutor from the Mid-west developed a fake profile to catch a big time drug dealer. The dealer was constantly changing cell phones and Sim cards, as well as other things, so he was hard to trace. But while communicating with the dealer the prosecutor got a response from him from an I-Phone app which she was able to trace to the purchaser and get the number. Wow! I thought it was crazy how they could find out all that from social networking! Criminals beware technology is not secure by no means! Check out the story...http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/how-to/computer-security/how-cops-are-casing-social-networks-for-crooks

Internet Explorer 9
The latest and greatest from Microsoft is now IE9. I learned a lot about it this week. Internet Explorer 9 has a lot of upgrades. It has improved on the overall security and user experience. It uses the new HTML5 Web development markup language which has new audio and video enhancements. It of course still has some downfalls with vendors trying to upgrade their systems to the new browser but as time goes on the kinks will be worked out. I haven't downloaded it yet I like to wait for most of the kinks to be worked out before I do. Overall though it seems like Microsoft is still one of the top competitors of browsers! Microsoft's Website gives you lots of details and support for any installation problems so check out the link if your interested. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2409098

Google Labs
So this may be old to some but I just stumbled across Google labs which is a website that shows you experiments and things that google is developing. It has things like Google transliteration which translates any word you type into the language of your choice and Google body which allow you to dissect the human body. It also has an app inventor which lets you create your own apps. Google has been booming lately coming out with new and inventive ideas and programs. I thought this site was interesting and it keeps you up to date on the latest and greatest that google has to offer now. http://www.googlelabs.com/

Fashion and Technology
Fashion and Technology are 2 of my favorite things. I thought it was interesting how much fashion has evolved in the technology world. Technology in fashion is much deeper than what cool new gadgets Celebrities are carrying. The software programs that are available for making and developing clothing and textiles have come a long way. There are amazing CAD programs like PlaidMaker Pro which enables designers to create their own patterns. There are programs that simulate fabric laying on real models and so much more. Also there are advanced programs that organize the making, selling and distributing of products. You definitely need a background in technology in the fashion world today and I think the 2 make a good mix.

TV Shopping
There are so many new technologies when shopping for TV's today. You have LCD, Plasma's, 3D... It can be confusing! So what is the difference LCD/HDTV's are higher definition and one of the first to come out. Then the plasma's came which delivers similar qualities but in a whole different aspect in the way it produces the picture with pixels and gasses. Now they add features like 3D capabilities. I found a website that does a little comparison chart and explains a little about how they work. It is still confusing but this may help a little! http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv-plasmavslcd.shtml

VMware with Cloud Computing
VMware with Cloud Computing is a very energy efficient way to organize and store data. VMware has the added security needed to protect data in business settings. It allows for better flexibility and control of the data. The ease of availability of data is one of its many advantages. It allows you to maintain current OS systems and structures that you currently have installed by adding it virtually on top of what you already have. This allows you to control access to the cloud. It is very interesting and it adds a lot more flexibility to business structures.

Green Technologies...
I've been interested in Green Technology and explained what it was in my last post, so I decided to look up some products that were already out. One product I found was a complete solar powered cell phone called "Blue Earth" and its made out of recycled products. The phone is made by Samsung and the solar panel on the back allows you to charge it up anytime. http://www.you-can-go-green.com/2009/06/green-technology-products.html
I also found this website http://www.igo.com/green/icat/green/ that contains green chargers, mostly solar powered.

Going Green...
Go green and reduce your carbon footprints....
Technology is taking a big step in trying to produce environmentally friendly products. Green technology, also referred to as Clean technology is basically finding ways to conserve energy, make products that can be recycled and reused, and provide safe and efficient products that help to cut down on the over use of the worlds natural resources. Green technologies are increasingly becoming more popular which means they will become bigger and better as companies join in to help create more efficient products.

E-Books
I've been interested in e-books lately; how they work and what exactly can you do on them? I've been doing some research and the Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device gets my vote. You can sync it to your PC or cell phone, it has built in 3G Wireless service where you can download and buy books anytime anywhere and built in Wi-Fi. I thought it was interesting because it has text-to-speech (IT CAN READ YOUR BOOK TO YOU).

Humanoid Robotics
Movies and TV have exposed us to the ideas of robots for years and I think the technology behind them is interesting. Honda has one of the most advanced robots called ASIMO that can help with disabled people and do things around the home. It can also help in office situations. There is a website that describes the robot, how it works and the technology behind it. I think it would be fun to learn more about these things!

My Introduction
My name is Danielle and I'm majoring in Computer Information Technology. I don't have much of an IT background in work experience but I have learned a lot in my time at school and will be graduating in May. I've worked with many different types of software programs on the jobs I have had. During my time at school I have grown interested in Computer Programming and software and hope to pursue a career in those fields.
